‘CRAZY FOR KNISHES!’ at the Museum at Eldridge Street (Jan. 28, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.). Pizza wars and cupcake wars have raged, but knish wars? That was indeed the case on the Lower East Side in 1916, when two businesses making that doughy snack opened across the street from each other. Their history inspired Joanne Oppenheim to write the children’s book “The Knish War on Rivington Street,” which she will read at this event. (She will also sign copies.) Ms. Oppenheim is to explain the role that young neighborhood residents played in the battle, and those hungry for knowledge — or just plain hungry — can enjoy the products of Yonah Schimmel Knish Bakery, a local purveyor. 212-219-0302, eldridgestreet.org/events
